Protective Coating and Lining

External Coating

External coatings are applied on steel pipes to increase the life of pipelines significantly, by preventing corrosion which damages the pipes and also causes leaks and spillages leading to serious consequences to the environment. In 1992, CSAPL was the first to offer Multi-Layer coatings on line pipes in Pakistan and continues to provide Single and Multi-Layer coatings in controlled environments. Through technological advancements, we have been able to consistently provide premium quality pipe coatings which are applied according to international standards.

Multi-Layer Polyolefin coatings on steel pipelines provide high mechanical strength and greater adhesion to steel. At our coating facility, side head extrusion process is employed which is an advanced coating system to produce strong, reliable, stable and age resistant coatings. High standards of quality are achieved by maintaining a controlled and clean environment.

Fusion Bonded Epoxy coating, also known as Fusion-Bond Epoxy Powder coating and commonly referred to as FBE coating, is an epoxy-based powder coating that is widely used to protect steel pipes from corrosion.

Tape coatings serve as in-ground corrosion protection for pipelines operating at higher temperatures. CSAPL applies Heat Shrink Tape coatings on pipelines operating above 110°C. Alternatively, Single and Multi-Layer Cold Tape coatings are applied to pipelines operating at maximum temperatures of 80°C.

Single Layer Liquid Epoxy coatings and Coal Tar Epoxy coatings provide UV and anti-corrosion protection to above ground pipelines and piling structures with excellent resistance when immersed in salt water.

Internal Coating

Internal coatings of pipelines are carried out to prevent internal corrosion to resist erosion and to reduce flow resistance. The internal coating process begins with surface preparation, which is followed by the application of coating. This provides excellent bonding to the steel substrate and acts as a tough barrier against water permeation; resulting in long life of pipelines. At CSAPL, internal coatings are applied according to international standards.

Coating film thickness of Internal Anti-Corrosion Epoxy coatings are significantly thinner than cement coatings/linings. Higher thicknesses of cement linings reduce the effective internal diameter of the pipes resulting in reduced flow rate. Therefore, pipes of relatively smaller size can be used if coated internally with Epoxy coating as compared to larger pipes coated with cement lining. The smooth hard internal coating reduces friction, decreases energy costs and investments in installed pumps or compressors.

Flow Efficiency coatings are primarily Epoxy coatings which improve flow efficiency. Pipes with Flow Efficiency coatings reduce costs of compression and pumping, facilitate the use of smaller line pipes, whilst providing the same flow rate and reduce corrosion of internal surfaces of pipe during storage and transportation.

Cement-mortar is composed of Portland cement, sand and water in order to create the required dense and homogenous consistency and is primarily used as internal lining for potable water application.
