Shakargani Energy (Private) Limited was incorporated on April 02, 2008 and wholly acquired by Crescent Steel in 2010. The unit developed and commissioned a 15MW cogeneration, bagasse fired thermal generation power plant at Bhone, Punjab and commenced commercial operations in December 2014. The unit also employs a 16.5 MW condensing and extraction turbine to process steam during off-season periods to ensure uninterrupted supply to Hadeed throughout the year. In 2019, the subsidiary was merged into Crescent Steel as a division and renamed as CS Energy.
The unit's primary business is to generate, accumulate, distribute, sell and supply electricity to the Hadeed Division and to distribution companies as permitted.
This project sets a precedent for power production at sugar mills by using bagasse as a source of alternative energy. The cogeneration plant uses bagasse in the combustion process to produce power and process steam. The plant is well positioned to cater to excess demand of process steam from the adjacent sugar mills and to provide reliable emission free power to the national grid.
The power plant operates under environmental management controls and in strict compliance with the requirements of the National Environmental Quality Standards (NEQS) to ensure there are no adverse effects on the surrounding environment and community.
